18) How are "Full Metal" films made?
Solar Gard full metal films are a special architectural line which starts out as a clear polyester. The film is washed and laser checked. Then, the film goes through the "sputtering process". Sputtering is an industry wide practice of metalizing plastics. Molecules of proprietary metals such as gold, silver, aluminium and copper are embedded into the plastic. If you have opened a granola bar or bag of chips, you have seen the results of a sputtered product. Sputtering in the food industry results in an air-tight, water-proof, bug-free product.Sputtering in the window film industry results in a highly consistent, high performing window film that is not dark in color. Sputtered window film has no dyed components that will fade or change color over time.
Once the sputtering process is complete, the film is laser checked again. When all physical inspections are complete, the UV coating is applied. Then, the computer applied adhesive is applied . Then, a silicone release liner is applied to the adhesive side of the film.
